alia raza x tavi gevinson x duskin

i finally got a chance to work with my oldest friend, alia raza, on one of of her newest videos. we’ve known each other since we were 5- we met in kindergarten, shared a cubby; she used to draw me pictures of boom boxes. now she makes videos and other cool things- and there is no doubt she has a lot of other great things to come.

over the years between us, there’s been a lot of talk about collaborations, but for whatever reasons, they’ve never worked out. until last month- when she emailed to ask if i would contribute some custom duskin pieces for a project she was shooting later that week with tavi gevinson – style rookie, i obviously jumped at the chance. alia. tavi. seriously?

all i can share right now is that tavi was such a pleasure to meet- completely poised, professional, and extremely well-spoken. naturally stunning. her mother was really sweet as well- so supportive and open. the whole team was really small, and everyone worked so well together.
i think we were all wowed by what we saw because, visually, everything came out just as we’d wanted, if not better.

the following image is a shot of the monitor while alia was setting up the scene with tavi. check back for updates and more images (or email me if you want any more info- i will share whatever i know and can)- it will be a while before any of us can see the final product, but i am so proud to have been a part of this inspiring project…

last month i wrote about my very talented and busy friend alia raza, who had just directed a music video for the band known as violens. i still think that is one of the best names ever.
well, perhaps because we’ve known each other for 25 years, she has kindly worked some of my duskin pieces into her newest music video project for the song “invisible sunday,” by alexandra hope, an artist on the label manimal vinyl. these are stills pulled from the shoot, and they are

just.

so.

amazing.

the video and album of the same name will debut in february, so please check back, as i’ll be posting it here.

my friend alia raza, whom i’ve known since she and i were 5 and shared a cubby in kindergarten together, has had a very good year. it all started with last january, as she shot her first short film, white light, which was adapted from a miranda july story, and since, it seems she hasn’t stopped working. music videos, art videos, music/art events, editing her projects, and coming up with new ones, etc. she keeps herself busy. interview just ran a story about her most recent project- a music video for the band, violens. check it out here.
